What are people using to host Avatar images for this forum?
I was using Photobucket (and I created an account there specifically for this purpose) but now it seems like they will no longer let me use Photobucket for third party image hosting.
Any ideas?

MySpace absolutely sucks for nearly everything... except that you can host images on it and it's free, unlike Photobucket.
Once a month, they send you an email. I can live with that.

I've been good up till w/ Photobucket now, but now I'm getting some notice saying they no longer support external site hosting. My guess is that they just haven't detected you yet. They want you to "upgrade" to a non-free account to the tune of $400!HCMarkus wrote:I use Photobucket; if Mike is correct, I must be grandfathered in...

Ha! Me too! I think you can use a Dropbox url, I'm not sure as I'm away from my computer at the moment. I'll give it a try later. Flickr allows 1TB of free storage, but I'm not sure third party posting is available, either.

OK, finally I was able to make it work w/ Dropbox. It was far from straightforward and required some hacks to the default link you get when you try to cut and past from Dropbox.

I think they have been hurting for cash for a while now. With tactics like this the hurt can only increase. I suspect their imminent demise shortly.Babz wrote:They want you to "upgrade" to a non-free account to the tune of $400!

Most ISPs give users some space that can be used for small web sites, and can be used to host something like an avatar.
I use my own registered domain for this along with file swaps for music projects. It costs very little, has about 500G of space, and has been reliable for about 10 years.
Anyone who can’t find a spot can send the image to me via PM and I’ll upload it and send back a URL for it.

I tried all of those solutions and none of them worked. Perhaps it is because I have a free Dropbox account. Imgur to the rescue.Babz wrote:https://milanaryal.com/hosting-images-w ... r-website/cuttime wrote:Babz, I see you're back. What's the trick?

Me too. Thanks for the Imgur reference, by which "my eye" continues to inhabit these regions.cuttime wrote:I tried all of those solutions and none of them worked. Google made noise about free storage for photos awhile back but I've heard nothing since. Anyone check it out?
MySpace is free and easy to link to but managing photos is a bit of a pain. I can no longer upload albums even though the instructions still say one can—they just don't work. For that reason, I'm looking for something else.
