2009 Apple 30" Cinema Display question...
This morning my trusty display came on just fine and maybe 30 minutes later went dark with no pilot light (tiny and on the bottom right corner). I'm suspecting the power supply brick as it's not at all warm to the touch.
Would some other 30" owners reach down and lay their hand on the brick and see if it's just a little warm to the touch?
I've ordered another from Apple (returnable) and am hoping that's all it is.
In the meantime, I'm using my secondary Dell 24" as my display backup.
Thanks!

Always happy to help. Yes, I have a warm brick... but I remember it being bigger than that. I did have to bend all the way over to reach it. Seriously, it's warm.

Thanks, MLC! That gives me hope that the replacement PS will fix the issue. Especially since the little pilot light (on the display) was also off.

If it has an appliance-style 3-prong plug going into the adapter, try replacing that first. It is amazing how often those things go bad.

It does, Terry, and I did.terrybritton wrote:If it has an appliance-style 3-prong plug going into the adapter, try replacing that first. It is amazing how often those things go bad.

Even tried 3 different AC outlets just to make sure that the one it was plugged into didn't trip a breaker.
Thanks!

Re: 2009 Apple 30
I have (2) 30's connected to my trashcan and one of them does this very thing you described from time to time. It usually happens when the monitors go to sleep for an extended period. What I have to do is unplug the monitor cable that goes to brick, then plug it right back in. All is well after that, until the next time... I guess the power supply is going bad on mine as well.
Great family and friends!

Re: 2009 Apple 30" Cinema Display question...
The replacement power supply from Apple came 2 days ago and all is well.
I do have a multimeter but the PS has a very small 10 pin female connector to the male power cable for the display. I don't think my multimeter leads would have made contact with either without cutting the cable that goes to the monitor.
So, I just waited for the brick to arrive!

Re: 2009 Apple 30
Side note: on a multi monitor system be sure you full screen app didn't move to a different monitor that is turned off. That's fooled me into thinking the machine was dead. Felt dumb except the OS decided it didn't like the monitor that was on.
