Well, it's not 1972 anymore. "Unicorn" is part of a Gens X & Y punchline... "rainbows and unicorns," usually used to suggest a kind of feather-headed, pie-in-the-sky optimism that is the sole province of naifs. If I were in marketing at MOTU, I would be looking forward to the day when most of our customer base didn't even know what the letters once meant.
I know a lot of the old Apple fans were sad or even angered to see the rainbow logo go, but them's the conditions.

Well, leaving out the unicorn logo which I mentioned for fun, "digital" is a given today. It reminds me of "High-Fidelity" that used to appear on old LP album covers. Soon enough everything was high fidelity and it was redundant.
All good points, but name recognition I think trumps all - especially now when the general feeling about DP seems to be very positive again. Don't think MOTU would want to rock the boat. I certainly wouldn't touch it.
And dude, hippies are the *only* people I trust with computers.
Changing it now would be like calling Twinkies, "Winkies" when they come back. I think keeping it as DP is probably the best marketing move. If they did change it should have been with the jump to PC support. Another chance exists at version 10.

Looking up at my shelf of DP manuals, it seems Motu is leaning toward "DP"; DP3-DP6 Have huge "DPx" on the manual covers with "Digital Performer" in small print. On the covers of DP7 and DP8 "Digital Performer" is gone. Just saying...

I think it's been Digital Performer now, longer than it was Performer. But I'd love for them to drop the Digital and just make it "Performer."
Of course, if they don't, then I'd like to see them add "High Fidelity" to the name: High Fidelity Digital Performer. I mean, if we're going to be redundant, let's be arrogant about it! Better still, High Fidelity Digital Performer in Super Stereophonic or Surround Sound! The short version would be HFDPSSSS.
I only kid, because I know that MOTU is never going to change. But if I were the boss, I'd say "we're going back to Performer."
Or maybe "Digital Studeroo."
