DP8 is a giant drag. Can anyone suggest a new DAW? (TROLL)

Post by teed »

hi all -

i've been a DP user since it was just performer and came on wooden floppy
discs :) deeply sorry to report that DP8 does not have an integrated bridge
for using VIs and plugins in 32 and 64. i am a professional and do not have
time to wait for all my third parties to upgrade to 64. i also have many plugins
that will never bump up.

what is worse is that the designers at MOTU considered this feature and decided
against it. after a year of struggling thru DP7 and it's 32 bit limitations i was sickened
to find out that "workarounds" were still part of my life.

worst of all is the disrespectful attitude at MOTU just plain lazy. check out the response i received after talking to MOTU customer service:

we did consider adding a bridge at one time, but did not because most plug-ins are moving to 64-bit (albeit some slower rather than surely). For example, you mentioned owning Waves, who recently moved into Waves 9, which is 64-bit compatible. Though I do realize an upgrade of this magnitude is easier said than done (especially for one's wallet), because, as I also mentioned, I am an end-user as well, so I do sympathize with you.

Wow..... You're a real a**!!! There's NO emergency for 64 Bit! I've been doing just fine without it as have MANY others! As for me, I'll wait for the majors such as Universal Audio to release their 64 Bit versions. It's certainly not stopping me from working successfully!! I can't believe you joined just to spew this crap!!! WHAT A LOOSER!!!!!!! :deadhorse: :mumble: :brucelee:

Why is it that when somebody writes a post like this and insists on saying, "I am a professional," what I see instead is, "I am a hobbyist?"

I'm a professional making a living with DP every day for almost two decades, and I to have been using MOTU stuff since it was just Performer. This last year I learned to use Logic just to see what I was missing. I came back because of DP8 (which is not "drag," whatever that may mean).

As a Logic user I completely understand MOTU's decision to not include a 32-bit bridge and don't find the lack of one to be a problem (all my plugs are 64-bit except for the UAD stuff, for which I can easily wait as the word is they'll be out before Xmas)... but if I did, I would simply use jBridge, as many, many professional users in this forum are obviously doing. And I suggest you do the same.

Ok folks, nothing to see here. Don't feed the trolls. And for heavens sake, don't argue with them; their idiocy could rub off! You don't want any of THAT igmoe on you.

bayswater, I think he was looking for a GOOD one, not just one of those average DAWs. Something like Dr. T's. Yeah, now there was a good DAW. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. Dr. T's on an Atari (or was it Commodore?) THAT is a first-rate setup. These new DAWs just can't compete with the real thing. And on wooden disks, no less. Last forever!

Obviously not. He tried a good one and didn't like it.

Dr. T. for the Atari is a good idea. He can get it here.

http://tamw.atari-users.net/omega.htm

... and run it on a PC!

http://www.synth.me/music-gear/run-atar ... re-your-pc

Doesn't even need a 64 bit bridge. What could be better?
