Third monitor and CPU / DSP / Mac Pro

I am thinking of adding a third monitor to my Mac Pro.

The stock graphics-card runs two monitors.

I am thinking of adding an extra inexpensive PCIe graphics-card to run a third monitor.

Does anyone know if this puts a hit on the Mac Pro CPU?

My DP setup is pretty maxed-out as it is. I crash frequently with out-of-memory issues.

I don't think the graphics cards put any stress on internal RAM. They have their own RAM. If you're having memory issues, RAM is cheap. Get some!

unless you have a Mac Pro 1,1/2,1 in which case RAM is expensive.

Also until DP8 comes out DP is limited to 4gb RAM so adding more won't necessarily help, depending on the situation.

It's interesting that Thunderbolt technology allows for 3 monitors on one little cable. They daisy-chain like Firewire devices. Just plug one after another and they all know what to do. Would be very nice to have!

I can not tell if it adds any kind of a hit on my cpu; I have 2 cards and 3 monitors. But I am no where near maxing out the CPU. I do how ever max out the ram and have to back off on plug-ins and VI's. DP8 will take care of that, some day.
