Dual Layer DVDs

Post by bayswater »

Can anyone recommend a brand of dual layer DVDs? I have tried a couple of batches and get a very large proportion that fail to verify. The same drives burners have no problems with single layer. I'd like to put a few of the things I've bought that are only available as downloads on DVDs.

IMHO, Taiyo Yuden media have always worked best for me, though burning disks has always been a black art.

Verbatim Datalife (Mitsubishi) has always worked well for me.

Thanks Mike, I've seen those around. Cuttime, when I look for Taiyo Yuden it takes me to JVC. Is it the same thing?

The feature that attracted me to Datalife in the first place was a layer of plastic on top of the data layer. This allowed me to write on it with a Sharpie or Magic Marker instead of a specialized pen - also reduced the possibility of scratching it.

They cost a few cents more but I tended to stick with them as they never gave me problems unlike certain other brands.

About a year ago or so, I had to do recovery on many old disks I recorded onto Kodak media in the 1990s. All of it was bad and many were unrecoverable. Fortunately, almost none of it was important. So much for the guarantee. I have some Verbatim media going that far back and have had no similar issues.

That appears to be the case these days.
