Any way to reset delay compensation or fix sync problem?

Post by waitsongs »

A couple times now I've gotten myself into trouble by recording audio tracks AFTER I've added Ozone to the Master Bus, and wound up with tracks that sound correct when recording, but late on playback (about 70 ticks). I can slide the tracks earlier so they sound correct on playback, but it's irritating, and a little nerve-racking with clients around, to have to do something like that.

Does anyone know a way to reset whatever breaks when recording with certain plugins on the Master Bus? I've trashed DP prefs, Ozone prefs, MAS prefs, checked CueMix FX to see if the monitoring delay might be there (although I didn't trash CueMix prefs), repaired permissions, re-started, removed Ozone from the Master Bus, set unused Inputs to "None", toggled Delay Compensation, tried all the Monitoring options.... nothing's worked so far.

I think I can work around the tracking issue by using a 2nd Mix with no plugins, but I just would like to know if the sync problem in the original Mix can somehow be fixed?

BTW, I'm using Direct Monitoring through CueMix FX when recording, so this isn't a latency issue. I'm also bussing all instruments to Subgroup Auxes, which then go to a Master Fader Aux, which in turn goes to a MIX bus (where Ozone and other plugins reside), which then outputs to the 828mk3 Toslink Out for monitoring through a Central Station.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know the answer, but I'll make a note not to record with Ozone active. I usually only use it in DSP Quattro on two track mixes.

I think I recall reading somewhere here that delay compensation does not work on effects on the master channel. That might have something to do with it, but it's not clear to me why recording on a channel that outputs to the master would effect dc on the channel.

Try putting an Aux in front of the Master (i.e. route everything through an Aux/Bus named SubMaster, then to the mains master) and put Ozone (and any other plugs you'd put on the master) on the Aux. PT also had issues with delay comp on masters.

Useful tool here: http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/latencyfixer.html

'The plug-in reports to the host application that it has a latency (controlled by the plug-in parameters) but does not actually apply any processing to the audio signal. This causes the host to use its own latency compensation to advance the audio fed into the plug-in by the requested amount. '

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

Thanks NazRat, that works! With all the things I tried, I can't believe I didn't think of that.

So it seems I can record new stuff, even with Ozone active on the SubMaster, and it plays back in sync (although the tracks I recorded previously with Ozone on the Mix Bus routed to the Mains still need to be shifted earlier to work).

I appreciate the help from all!
