DAW Poll......doesn't make the top ten...

Post by cxi2001 »

An interesting look at the DAW market....or perhaps what people who read Synthtopia are using...

http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2012/ ... 2012-poll/

DP doesn't make the top ten, but really, FL Studio ?
I like one of the comments, "guys who use Pro Tools are too busy to vote in polls" - the same for DP users too :D

Whattya mean, "or perhaps?".

Obviously, by definition, this poll reflects the preferences of Synthtopia members, not the DAW market. And, as I like to point out when these things crop up, MOTU is no longer a software company... They are a groundbreaking, market-leading hardware company that provides I/O solutions for digital audio and video. They also continue to maintain a line of full-featured audio software.

MOTU aggressively markets and advertises their products and continues to grow. They are in no danger of blowing away, and they know what they're doing. Our beloved Digital Performer is supported by MOTU's larger efforts in the content-creation community, and we should be grateful.

Finally, an online "poll" isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Among a statistically insignificant sample of users who hang out on one web forum.

The trend is perhaps not entirely wrong with the passage of FL Studio 64-bit, Application for IPhone and IPad and Mac compatibility soon after beta test.

Let me put it this way...

If you were a brand manager or product manager or anyone who worked in marketing, and you made the most inconsequential decision based on a totally uncontrolled poll on a web forum, you'd be a complete idiot, if not fired.

There is no "trend" to be read here. A real market analysis would be required for that.

DAW Poll......doesn't make the top ten...

I just did a quick poll on my studio and DP comes out on top. The competition didn't even get one vote (but DP did).

Just as valid.

Yes, it's meaningless.... if I did a poll amongst my close friends and colleagues then ProTools would come out overwhelmingly ahead, with Logic in second place...... so it is always going to depend on who you ask, and what part of the industry they inhabit!!

Cheers

Stephen

...and this does beg the question, why should I even care?? !!

DP may not make the Top 10 in that popularity poll.. but more important IMO is that DP is No 1 in this sound quality test..

Thanks to your pic and caption, I'll forever think of Pavarotti as a Tex Avery style steam whistle.
