PCIe 424 / fans running nonstop in my MacPro
Hey guys, wonder if any one can help. I have a MacPro 2009I bought new a year ago. Been running it for a year now and no problems. All of a sudden a few weeks ago the fans would start up in the computer and they would not shut off. Brought it to an auth apple repair guy and he did his tests and found no problems with the machine. I today took out the PCIe 424 card and so far no fan wierdness. I also have the Digi002 and I ran Protools with no problems. Anyone heard of this before? I was getting audio thru and out of the card with no problem when the fans were on. I am on OSX 10.6.8 Thanks

Re: PCIe 424 / fans running nonstop in my MacPro
Maybe the 424 is interfering with the Mac's ability to measure its temperature. In that case, the fans run all the time, just in case. Can you try a different slot?
You might want to google the problem as well. There are a lot of reasons why a fan would keep running, and a lot of possible fixes.

Figured it out. Was not the PCIe card but I have a 2 monitor setup with long cables. When I plug them in without the extensions, the computer is silent. what thru me was I have been running this setup for a year now with no problems. I have the graphics card that came with the computer. Took me a while but I figured it out

The ports on the 424 card are not firewire. They're audiowire. See this tech note at MOTU.
