Probably, considering that Apogee announced today that they will support Thunderolt:

I can't imagine it will be long before RME, Avid, PreSonus, and other manufacturers follow suit.

COnsidering MOTU has generally been bleeding-edge (they were the first to deliver a usable Firewire interface, remember), I suspect they already have a Thunderbolt interface under development.

Remember, MOTU follow's Apple's lead in typically only announcing products that are already ready to ship (excepting Mach Five updates :-)).

Waiting for a TB Mac Pro?

Actually, manufacturers are waiting for Intel to ship the low cost TB chip set they have been promising for a year. Although the expectations are this Spring, that is getting closer without major announcements of shipping product. The prototypes have been long developed in many cases but you can't ship what you cannot get.

UA has handled this by leaving a slot open for TB in its new interface.

Frankly I'm tired of waiting. Especially since the rest of the world is enjoying USB 3.

Interestingly, it was Intel who pulled the plug on integrating usb3 into the Mac chip sets and convinced Apple to jump up to TB.

Thunderbolt and Motu

Post by kgdrum »

There was an interesting thread on either GS or KVR recently(can't remember which one).
Black Lion Audio posted that Intel told them that they are the 1st and only company developing a native Thunderbolt I/O, I think they also posted the same info on the their Facebook page.
They claim all the other manufactures are using some kind of non native layer of conversion ---> to Thunderbolt.
This stuff is a bit beyond my understanding but surprising if I'm understanding all of this correctly.
Anyone else see or understand all of this?

Thunderbolt and Motu

I know that Mike, BLA is actually saying other developers are creating devices with an extra layer between Thunderbolt , USB or FW to TB
I guess not native Thunderbolt , I guess inferring other companies are designs are somewhat compromised and not utilizing ThunderBolts technology to its maximum potential.

As I posted earlier - everyone is waiting for Intel to deliver the chip sets they promised a year ago. True, a year ago they promised them by this Spring - which is almost here.
