MacBook Pro Quad Core running DP7 & 828mk2

Post by gearboy »

Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've hung around here. Nice to see so many familiar faces again. I've finally updated from PPC world this week and I'm now the proud owner of a MBP quad core. It's running the latest version of Lion, however I'm considering partitioning the drive and also running Snow Leopard.

I'm wondering how DP is working under both Lion and the last version of Snow Leopard for those of you on MacBook Pros. I just downloaded drivers for the Duet and the 828mk2 for both operating systems. Planning on ordering DP7 in the next week or two. Is there anything that I should be concerned about? I keep hearing that DP7 is pretty amazing and bug-free for the most part. This will be my first upgrade of DP since the summer of 2005!

BTW, I'm keeping my legacy Dual 1.8 and Dual 2.3 G5 DP 4.61 systems as a backup running Komplete 5, Miroslav, GForce synths, etc while I make the transition. Trying to figure out which plug-ins will move with me, which I'm ditching, which I'm thinking about picking up. Any suggestions?

Good to be back!

I also got a 4 core MBP recently. It had 10.6.8 on it, I added 10.7.2, and DP 7.2.4 ran just fine on both systems. But the situation with plugins is still not all that clear, and 10.7 doesn't seem to do anything to improve DP workflow or performance, so 10.6.8 / 7.2.4 is probably the sweet spot for the moment.

That's what I am assuming. I'm kind of starting a system from scratch again to be honest. As mentioned, I was plug-in looney a few years back and now find myself being way more traditional (EQ, compressors/limiters, delays, verbs); I also have much more outboard and DP seems to come with a lot of great stuff stock.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure that questions will come up as I move forward building my new DP setup.

Greetings to all,
I am new here and well I just got a Macbook Pro Dual core for my bday and was wondering about the DP upgrade. My basic set up has been a Mac POwer PC G4 and DP4 then 5 and now 6. I have never had any problems but then again we just use the basics and wire in REason from time to time. My PPC has been crashing and driving me nuts hence the new mac..but now what I do.. Do I stay with DP 6? And it looks like I will be upgrading the OS to Lion... Should I look to upgrade to DP7?
(I use a Motu Traveler, 1st generation, to record folk music and things of that nature, so this setup has been really good to me until its recent crashes)
any advice would be really appreciated... thanks
