Business management software

Related to the previous post about management software: I am about 2 months away from launching a record and publishing company. I am using two LLCs, one to serve as a record company and the other as a publishing company. This whole setup is jointly owned by myself and a friend. I am dreading the amount of paperwork involved, even though I will start with only a handful of artists.

My question is this: what business software are people using around here? I would prefer to keep it all OS X compatible. I know Intuit make small business software, but the yearly mandatory updates and interface issues are a turn off. Has anyone used any MYOB stuff? Am I better off using a paper ledger? I hope not...

Anyway, I would appreciate any advice on financial software...Thanks.

I started with Quickbooks for Mac back in the day (pre-1997), but have grown increasingly irritated with Intuit's behavior toward the Mac and their nickel-and-dime mentality.

When I became self-employed full time a few years ago, I got MYOB for Mac. The product is fine, although a little hard to learn if you're used to Quickbooks... things just don't always work the way you think they should.

Ultimately, though, I went to Quickbooks for PC for one simple reason: that's what my accountant uses. Which brings me to my advice: find out what your accountant uses and use that. It will make your life a lot happier, especially at tax time.

While I wouldn't trust Intuit to do the right thing with their Mac products, I'm pretty confident in their Windows product. I just don't fall for the constant upgrade thing with them, and neither does my accountant.
