Streaming??

Post by daddyunicorn »

I know this latest M5 update boasts streaming, but what does it mean and how does it work.
I notice a little Streaming button on the interface. Do I have to press it in order to make it "Stream"
Will this reduce strain on CPU?

Hi there daddyunicorn,
Streaming is good so go ahead and press that button. Streaming conserves yummy ram by storing only a small portion of the sample file in ram and reading the rest direct from disk as required. This may very well increase cpu, but if so, only minimally - and it won't tax your rig anywhere near as much as loading a large sample file into ram would. Streaming does not work on .dat files like Plugsound and other such Ultimate Sound Bank stuff. Pressing the streaming button will also decrease load times. Give it a go and if you don't like it remember streaming is not forever and you can press it again. ;)
Lots of stuff and a recently acquired ability to stop buying

I'll try it out. But since streaming sounds best, why would anyone not use it? Why would someone opt to not stream?
