Microsoft in talks to buy Adobe
I saw this story while visiting my folks in Boston over the past week.
I know it isn't directly DP-related, but many on this forum also do graphic design and/or photography, or use Adobe audio apps as part of their workflow, so I hope it is not inappropriate to mention this game-changing potential buyout here.
Of course, Microsoft wants Flash. But maybe this is just Adobe's way of putting pressure on Apple.
At any rate, there are potentially serious implications for Mac owners who do not also own a Windows system, and as it could affect some people's livelihoods on this forum should it come to pass and should Adobe products gets yanked from the Mac platform, I thought I should mention it here.

Re: Microsoft in talks to buy Adobe
I've seen this rumor a few times myself. If this turned out to be true, I'd seriously consider changing careers.
Too much of what I do relies on Adobe applications and embedded imaging technology (Postscript and PDF-based processing), and what I've seen of Microsoft's handling of anything that comes near these things is disastrous.
Of course, it's possible that Microsoft would mainly concern themselves with the online technology and leave the imaging tech to existing Adobe people for continued development, but it's very disheartening nonetheless.

Look at the silver lining... except there isn't one. You're right, it would be a disaster.mikebeckmotu wrote:what I've seen of Microsoft's handling of anything that comes near these things is disastrous.

I'm getting great work done now with the software versions I have so...mhschmieder wrote:I saw this story while visiting my folks in Boston over the past week.

People probably use at a maximum, 50% of what an application is capable of...
Apple is hard at work on the new FCS4 and other apps so the mac isn't dead. I'd be worrying more about my creative ambition than what new software is in the future.
MS has Silverlight, they want flash to kill it if anything.

Re: Microsoft in talks to buy Adobe
Ars Technica had a good article about this rumor:
Microsoft buying Adobe would fix both companies' Apple problem
(The title of the article is a bit misleading, though, considering that the conclusion of the article is "Partnership, yes. Purchase, doubtful.")

"I don't see any method at all, sir."

From what I'm hearing about FCP4 is a completely new interface with editing and a re-write---I hope that is true, I don't like certain aspects of FCP but use it heavily.
Thank you,

I LOVE this letter Steve Jobs wrote about Adobe. Especially the last 3 paragraphs in his conclusion
