Computer Monitor's

Post by inukshuk »

I'd like to have some input on two purchasing options. What do you think? Either working with two 17" LCD monitor's or the apple 23" cinema display. This is for Audio and Video production.

i think most people on here prefer 2or more monitors...at least that seems to be the sentiment overall

Hi Wonder

I've already got two 17" LCD's and they are great. It's just that those new apple displays are just so awsome and would be nice to watch movies with. Plus no separation like when you have two. So just wondering if anyone is doing it and how they like it. Impressions.

:p

Which Forum?
I did a search at Unicornation, KVR, powercore.noheaven, Apple Insider, UAD Forum, and OS X Audio is off line for now, but so far no luck.???

Go with two. Reasons:
1. you will have more space than one 23.
2. Organization - video on one, audio on other.
3. or, DAW on one, Plug ins, and other inst. on other
4. You can position them in various configuration minimizing your listening view to the speakers. I hate having a wall between me and the speakers.
5. When doing simple things like mixing or mastering, you can use just one small monitor off to the side or in front down low and not have anything blocking the speakers.

IMHO.

Last fall I went thru this and Opted for the 2 17" vs the one large apple display. It is alittle more real estate this way, but those apple displays are amzing. If you are going to do anything print or graphic oriented then I would consider the apple stuff.

For scoring to picture I like to set up a monitor with a mixer page [ with trannsport and chunks windows - whatever] and one with a tracks window open. I doa similar setup when in PT as well.

Good luck!

It's all preference. I'm using a single 20" LCD for most mixing, but I can power up my old 19" CRT if I'm running softwynths or something. I hardly use it anymore, though.

Best,

I have an Apple 23" Cinema on the desk, and a cheapie 17" mounted on a swivel on the wall just above the main one. put all the fx, transport, counter, etc. on the 17" and run the mix and seq on the big one. Works great, like mission control.

2 15" LCD's on wall mounts that are just above my mixer in front of me. Works great and seems like enough room.
