Looking for a sax player

Post by jlaudon »

I'm looking for a sax player who is able to record improvised pop/RnB solos, but since I'm based in Hong Kong, I would probably have to upload the tracks to the sax player who could then send me back the recorded sax parts in WAV/Aif (after I pay them, of course :-)

Can anyone recommend someone like this?

Thanks much!

Hey there, John,

Shooshie, although a "classical" dude, is also a dude, man.
Translation: The man plays sax. Try PMming him.

In a pinch, I could have a go using the VL-70m as pop stuff tends to render the need for true authenticity obsolete.
Translation: Near enough may well be good enough for you.
It will for me, after all. :D

Thanks, Nicky, I will most definitely get in touch with him. It's amazing, this online collaboration and the possibilities.

It's interesting that I've searched and searched for someone offering this kind of service, and it's easy to find guys who dub drums, or do a band recording, but not many people advertising solo playing (sax, gtr, etc...) services - maybe this is something shoosh can advertise since his work situation has changed in the recent past - maybe for a lot of guys, they don't have a recording situation that can handle this kind of job. Anyways, just some thoughts floating thru my head :-).

There's some info in this thread that might help:

I know someone who used esessions to contact Andy Snitzer, and hired him to play sax on his project.

Thanks Ron - there sure is a lot of choices now, wow. Through your link I went onto Phil Robertson's site. He's an old buddy of mine that I haven't had contact for ages - He even came to Hong Kong once to play a one week gig with me for fun - a hot hot drummer, at 125/track - man, things have changed.

EDIT: 125/song

Yikes - I mean 125/song, not per track :?. I remember the days when you needed a drummer (minimum 3 hour session), a studio, an engineer, and a producer - it all added up to way more than 125 bucks

Sorry about the lack of clarity :o

No worries, John.
PM me if you get desperate.

FWIW, solo time has always been my favourite step in music production.
I haven't done anything for longer than I care to let up, but I remember that throughout projects in the past I've hankered for this step.

Hi MM, sorry for the delay in responding - trying to figure out my linksys wireless router over the last few days, and when I just defaulted to the original setup, here I am back on line (after a few days of trying to decipher the linksys setup manual).

When I started this thread, I also found a sax site  where I linked up with a guy in the US who seems willing to do the songs for whatever I can afford (wow), so I had sent him the songs - I have yet to get the tracks back. I'll let you know how things went. Thanks for your input and offer - you will be getting something from me at some point soon where you can solo away :P .

I also was recommended a guy called Tom Keenlyside from a musician friend in my home town (vancouver), who I've been in touch with. Check out his web site - tomkeenlyside.com - serious credits there.

Welcome back John.
I can relate - it took days to sort Mail and my IP account out when I switched to Leopard; not being able to log on here was so frustrating! :D
Oh, and that was after waiting 10 days for my Apple USB modem - I didn't realise the new Mac Pros lacked built-in ones.

I'm not one of these heavy-duty dudes, but should you not be happy with what is done for you, I'll still be here.
Good luck man.

PS: I hope you've coped OK with the cold in your concrete enclosure.

It's finally warmed up again - thanks for thinking of us, MM. It was 26 days in a row of about 10º weather.
