Motu 828 mkII Audio Skipping Dropping Out Glitching

Post by jesusjams777 »

I am recording a session at 24bit 88.2 khz. My computer is a p4 1.7ghs w/ 1gb ram. I have my hard drives in a raid. Running win xp pro w/ sp2.

After an accumulation of just a few tracks I start to experience some audio skips and glitches. It's only for a very quick moment but enough for me to notice.

It seems when I record at 44.1 I have a little more stability. What tips can I use to get my system a little more stable?

I've increased the buffer, minimized what else is on this computer and defragmented the hard disk.

Well, I think the Pentium 1.7 GHz and only 1 GB of RAM may be your problem.

..but just in case it isn't a performance issue.

1. FYI, MOTU Recommends using Service Pack 1. I've run a MOTU interface just fine on a PC with SP2, though...YMMV.

2. Make sure your firewire card has a Lucent or Texas Instruments chipset.

3. There are a few sites out there that have tips for tuning windows for better audio and DAW performance. Here's one:

Good luck..

on another thought.
are you running a software raid program?
if so that is something that i had before, i found it set its own schedual for redundancy checks, and would start whenever it felt like it. that would cause problems.
