Advice please... :)

Post by Riffsbar »

I am about to receive a Mac Mini 1.4Mhz PPC G4 with Logic Express.

I need to record 8 analog I/P's from the groups on my desk as a minimum requirement, 16 would be ideal for the near future. Plus a MIDI I/F.

I would like a firewire interface and have been recommended to use Motu

I could afford a new Ultralite, possibly a second hand 828MkII or a possibly new 8Pre.

Can you tell me what is best to go for please

Andy :)

I use a mini as a mobile recording computer. It's a 1.33. I have an 828mkII, Alesis AI3, 300gb external hard drive. The system works flawlessly everytime.

The ultralite won't give you as much input capability as the 828mkII or traveller.

...Logic express limits you to 12 inputs simultaneously (to my knowledge).
I use DP 4.6

If you don't need 8 preamps then the 828 would be a good way to go. Otherwise I would start with an 8pre and then add another one or an 828 later.

You'll probably also want to get a fast external HD.
