Is there a reason why any "move" and "move a little" are the same. What determines the increment (or decrement) they are supposed to be moving by.

The answer to "what's the difference between "move" and "move a little" is known only to a few, who dare not release it, lest others know it, too. I can tell you, though, from personal observation, that "move" moves a little, and "move a little" moves a little less. So perhaps they are not aptly named. But we shall keep you as up to date as possible in our translations of arkane and awkward keywords as we become aware of their existence or size, as the case may be.

TIP: Keeping Up With MOTU


This is a tip of a VERY different sort.

I noticed recently that MOTU's site has an RSS feed. This means that just by clicking a link, anytime info is updated it will appear in your browser without having to dig through MOTU's site. (Make sure you are using a browser such as Safari which supports RSS feeds.)

It's so nice to click the RSS feed link on any given day to see the most recently added info.

For those who have never used an RSS feed link, it summarizes the info on a webpage for you, then creates a link for each new entry. Each summary has its own timestamp, and only the new updates will appear since your last visit to the RSS link.

This makes for VERY quick info gathering-- eliminating the need to use the site's search engine to hunt for new info all the time.

Here's something for the Tips folder Shooshie.

Besides using folders to organize your mix, these same folders can organize your views of what to edit.

Create folders in a way that represents how you'd like track groups to come up for mixing.

Because the trick is this-When you option click a folder, ONLY that folders contents show up in ANY editing window you are in.
Therefore, I create folders and SUb folders so as to enable me to see desired groupings when editing and mixing.

For example...

Vocal.
Master folder called-ALL Vocals -THis is top level and all subsequent vocal folders will go inside this folder
inside of All vocals- Lead Vocals Folder- inside of this folder goes all lead vocal related tracks
inside of ALL Vocals- BG Vocals Folder.-inside of this folder goes all background vocal related tracks


Now, when I am mixing, (or editing), if I option click THE FOLDER- BG vocals, I see ONLY my background vocals. But if I option click THE FOLDER ALL vocals, I will get to see and edit ALL the vocals, as opposed to just the backgrounds. If I option click the Lead Vocals FOLDER-only lead vocals show up.

Apply this hiearchy to guitars, the band mix, drums, or ANYTHING you wish to be able to have appear in an organized manner for mixing and editing.

Renaming Clippings with "copy" in the name
Works in: Tracks Window
When you drag a clipping containing tracks, DP inserts the word "copy" at the end of each track. This can be a problem when creating songs in the Chunks window, which then must be converted back to sequences later, because it depends on track names to keep tracks together when all the Chunks have been recombined. So, a quick way to get rid of the word "copy" at the end of each track name:
First, option & click on the track name.
Then:
1- press "right-arrow" to place cursor at end of name
2- option & back space to erase "copy" in one touch,
3- then one more back space to erase the space.
4- Use the arrow down to go to the next track.

You can go through a series of tracks in a hurry once you get the "rhythm" down.

It does not work by me.

I see that when I hold Option then press left arrow it jumps to the left of the word, so the Option "thingy" is some what working, but not with the delete button.

You can save all the great advice that comes through the nation in one central file for future access, using a folder, an alias of the folder on the desktop and the apple picture taking function shift/apple 4.

Here's what you do:

Create a folder named "DP tech articles- software notes" wherever you keep your important docs. Create an alias to that folder that sits on your desktop for easy access.

Every time a great piece of advice comes through the Nation or from anywhere, hit shift/apple 4 on your keyboard and you'll get a little x icon. Drag that icon across the text you wish to copy, release your mouse and it will take a picture of the article/advice etc and will place the pic on your desktop. It will probably be called "Picture 1". Option click on the picture and re-name it, giving it a short name that summarizes the advise, such as "crash recovery technique" etc. Now drag that file to your DP tech noted alias which is already on the desktop. Now you have an organized place that contains pictures of all the great articles and advice you find. If you have a DP problem, you can quickly go there and find pertanent info on a variety of problems.

But they are non-searchable. Better to save the entire pages to the folder. Just click COMMAND-S and save. Then you can find the info with Spotlight. I just like being able to find stuff later, and searching through Spotlight is my best bet these days, with my slowly deteriorating memory.

Cool I didnt know you could do that. I guess the only drawback is that you are then dependant on the internet and this site being up etc.

Also, my method allows for saving excatly what you need and if you then look in the folder alphabetically, all the topics appear pretty neatly and since they are pictures, they belogn to my data base forver without the need for the internat or the forum to be up and running. Seems like there are adavantages to both methods. It was nice to learn of the save function thoug, do you save as web archive or page source?

did not read through the list to see if mentioned or not, but if you find it hard to see on off velocities in sequence editor @higher screen resolutions on your monitor. Turn on white on black preference from universal access menu under system pref. you can also change the size of cursor for easier location if your mouse gets moved when not using.

Is there a way that the Mackie Control should respond to track folders?

When a track folder is closed, the rest of the tracks beneath them should move up in the MC.
