VISUAL INTERFACE

Post by wilhelm »

hi everyone

I have listened to the demo video's provided by MOTU and am very impressed with the sound quality of "Ethno".

I would like to know how users feel about MOTU's visual interface.

My impression =

It looks TERRIBLE , UGLY & HIDEOUS !!!!!!!

I would like to see a simple and CLEAR design , something that feels professional.

A lot of software producers could learn a great deal from Adobe in this regard.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO WORK WITH INTERFACES THAT LOOK LIKE TOYS WHILE THEIR SOUND QUALITY IS SO SUPURB ???

I do not understand this, do YOU ?

Everyone is different. I happen to love Ethno's interface above almost any other that I own. I find it very clear and easy to traverse. I wish Kontakt was this easy, but I'll eventually buy Mach Five after V2 comes out.

I wish other vendors would take a hint from MOTU. Every MOTU product that I own (or have owned, as in the case of MSI), is visually gorgeous and professional looking and inspires confidence.

So how's that for a contrary opinion? :-)

one cannot argue taste

however

music is about listening

personally ;

interfaces that have unnecessary graphics , curves , colors , cute buttons , etc

make using software too much of a visual experience .

i like things clear and simple rather than CUTE

that is what i understand under the term 'professional'

We are all humans and humans have actually a very limited understanding about things. You are a human too, try to focus on things youdo understand. That way your life will me much easier.

You are excused.

About inrerface: I cannot say that I like it but I cannot also say that it is too ugly and disturbing.

Somebody told you. Sorry you did not get the answer you wanted. I too think the interface is good and I like it. If you think that an unnatractive, tech looking, square buttons, "professional" interfaces is best, you should probably get yourself a Windows machine and Cubase or something.

"Pro" is a very subjective term. I personally think the UI is OK -- it doesn't slow me down or confuse me (though I'll admit it could be smaller, as it really dominates a small screen).

All of MOTU's interfaces are mood-setting, and for me personally, this helps put me in the right frame of mind for using them musically and appropriately.

I agree though that it might help to shrink the overall size of the GUI, as it does indeed make it a bit difficult sometimes to cross-reference other things on the screen at the same time (not that this is often necessary).

Ehhhh... dude ,, were you high when you wrote that? I totally understand if you were. Dont worry, we still love ya :D

About da interface, Ethno is focused on Tribal, ethnic sounds from arond the world. The inteerface is consistent with the sounds, its inspiring.

Wow and hear I thought Ableton's interface doesn't look like it has been updated since the commodore 64. Maybe it just my Windows machine's interface.

I like the I/F, and yeah Ableton's graphics were done freehand in MS Paint...
