How to Authorize over an older Authorization

Post by bayswater »

My copy of DP 5.11 has at last arrived. I installed it this morning, and on launching, instead of asked me to enter a serial number or authorize it, it simply started up with someone's name, not mine, in the flash panel. My G5 was not new when I got it so I can only assume the previous owner had DP, and did not remove the authorization when removing the apps. I tried the uninstall routine on my install CD, and reinstalled, but the same name came up. Also deleted any Finder references I could find to DP or MOTU (other than my hardware drivers), etc, but to no avail.

If anyone knows, where are the files I need to delete or what is the process I need to follow to remove the old authorization so I can install my own?

Sounds like you need to fire off an email to MOTU.

Thought so. Just hoped someone would know so i don't have to wait until next week for answer. I can get it up and running ok, but anticipate that I'll have to start from scratch and do all the set up stuff again when this gets fixed.

Found it. Used Terminal to look at the root directory of the startup drive, and there were authorization files for versions 4.5 and 5.0. Deleted these and all proceeded as expected.

In the future, or for others in the same boat, you can use Easy Find*, set to find Invisible Files, to find a file at the root, called Auth-MOTU, or something similarly obvious, and just put it in the trash and delete it.

*Spotlight and built in Finder Find will no longer find invisible files, hence the suggestion to use a third-party utility.

From MOTU Site:

How to reauthorize DP, AudioDesk, or Unisyn under Tiger (OS 10.4)
At this time, reauthorizing under OS 10.4 must be done through the Terminal.

Quit all running applications. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator user, then proceed.
Go to Applications/Utilities and open Terminal.
Copy and paste this command, then press Return:
cd /

Then copy and paste this command, then press Return:
rm Auth-DigitalPerformer\ 4.5

If you are reauthorizing AudioDesk 2 or Unisyn 2.1 instead, use the appropriate one of these two commands.

rm Auth-AudioDesk\ 2.0

Peace!
