Auto Save

Post by Oddeo »

Is it possible to program an auto save? Or is there maybe a 3rd party program that does this?

I have had DP for years and have experienced crash after crash, hours of lost material.

You would think that I would learn, but I just don't.

No matter how many times I loose material I still am not in the habbit of saving every few minutes. I just get so excited and wrapped up into my work that I just want to keep laying music down.

If there is any option to automatically save please let me know.
Neil

Do a search in Unicornation and you should find something... I remember a thread a while back on this very subject, and a Third Party solution, freeware most likely, was identifed.

When one gets really good at remembering to save on his own, auto save is actually a liability...

There are touchy moments when I really don;t want to save...

And I save so regularyl and professionally, I think I get burned only a tiny bit 2x a year///and I get far more benefit by not saving over my previous versions than that same 2x a yr.

agreed tdh,

I've into the habit of saving and not realizing it. There have a few times when I get a crash or something, and to my great joy, I found I saved a minute earlier... ahh....

make a move, save....make a move, save...

If you think about it guys, if just history was auto-saved somehow so we could reload to the same point of the crash, that would be the hot ticket.

You can program an auto save as follows: Place your thumb on the Command key and your index finger on the S. Make the metronome click audible. Depress your thumb and index finger in time with the click.

Sorry - getting late - just a bit of humor.

I do like Timeline's idea of auto save on the history.

Can't beat the price and it looks pretty good. Quickeys will also do this for you and give you a lot more bang for you buck. But it DOES cost a few bucks. (I couldn't live with QKeys...)

I also have the habit to save regulary, but I have also program the scroll wheel button for saving.

That way saving is always under my finger

Other than 5.11 being very stable for me and rarely crashing.
The last work I lost was due to a power loss and was my fault because a have a UPS sitting around not in use.
But over the last few years I always tell people I'm working with about my absent minded saving technique.
They usually get the hang of it and start reminding me to save when things are going good.
I guess this falls into the same category as not hitting the record button, this ones a good indicator of your musicians sense of humor.

I save so much that I recently went to see a hand surgeon becasue of a pain I had in my left hand in the tendon between my thumb and first finger!! Thought I was getting carpol tunnel or something. Turned out to be just fatigue. So now I'm programming other ways to do the same key stroke on alternative input devices.

I got a pen tablet for my right hand problems and programed a button on the tablet to save, plus a button on the pen. For my left hand I have a wireless mouse (to help relieve repetitive stress on the right hand) and programmed an extra button on that to save. Works great. Footswitch is a good idea. I do use my punchin footswitch more even when I'm not recording myself playing guitar. I was kind of scared recently by the hand problems so I'm breaking things up in terms of my way of working.

This is how Live works. When you reopen the app it asks you if you'd like to save the work you temporarily lost. I don't know why every app doesn't have something like this, especially the ones with undo histories.
