Unable to use convolution reverb

Post by pbourke »

I recently purchased MOTU SI and I find that I cannot use any of the convolution reverb presets. After applying the preset, the sound becomes horribly 'garbled'. Almost like it is breaking up. Reducing some of the reverb settings helps, but the sound is not usable.

The fast reverb works fine but I would like to use the convolution reverb on some sounds.

I have a HP Dual Core 4200 x2 processor with 2gig of ram. I use a m-audio 2496 sound card. I also own Kontakt 2 and have no problems running multiple samples with its convolution reverb. I am fairly certain that my machine can handle this. I reduced everything to one track and one sound but the problem persists.

As well, if I use MOTU standalone and trigger the sample from my piano the same happens.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be wong?

You probably have to raise the buffer settings. This might make it difficult to play the sounds, so it is best to use the fast reverb settings while recording, then up the buffer on playback so you can use the convolution reverb.

It is a processor hog though. Check the CPU performance.

Thanks for responding.

I checked the m-audio web site and downloaded a more recent driver. Plus I increased the buffer size. I can now use most of the convolution reverb presets.
