I was honored to get to hang with June many times. She was a true force of nature. So great!

"Rocky" was played by a GIRL??????

My entire puberty has to be reconsidered... (In fact, so does my entire pre-puberty.)

Seriously, this woman was one of the greatest of the greats.

Surprised that Rocky gets the biggest mention everywhere, but I guess it was the role she did the most (or the longest). She did also do the Natasha in that cartoon though.

1. Cindy-Lou Who, in The Grinch
2. Quite a few uncredited roles in Warner Bros. cartoons (Mel Blanc had a "special" monopoly)
3. Various Disney roles over the years

And of course, the scary doll in the Twilight Zone episode with Telly Savalas.

I'd like to see a full list. Probably one will appear soon. She may well have been the most versatile voice-over artist ever.

Chuck Jones was being interviewed when he mentioned June Foray, and the interviewer said, "She's like the female Mel Blanc, right?" And Jones replied, "No... Mel Blanc is the male June Foray."

Her work with Daws Butler on The Stan Freberg Show was awesome. Her comic timing and sense of where to punch a line is unequalled.

I'd heard that before, too. No disagreement here! And no disrespect to Mel Blanc. They were both primo voiceover artists.

The sad thing is that I'd nearly forgotten June Foray. I guess it's been a while since I've seen new work by her (or was aware of it). I'm an animation fan. My daughter's boyfriend is in animation, and he's won an Emmy and an Ani this year. We love getting out together, because we talk animation. He's amazed that I know all this stuff; it's called growing up in the age of TV. And a few books. And a few dozen documentaries. We were all sad to hear about June.

Any time there was a catered reception at the Academy June was there 30 minutes before the doors opened. I always tried to get there early enough to chat with her. What a gem!

I'd like to hear a recording of one of those conversations! Did she ever break into one of her voices? (or do you have to pay for that? ;) ) What was it like to talk to Rocky the Flying Squirrel. I've always wondered if they break into voices a lot. What it would be like talking to June Foray, Bea Benaderet, or a more contemporary Tress MacNeille. I used to date a wonderful woman who was beautiful, intelligent, and funny. She would break out into voices sometimes, and could do Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, Rocky the Flying Squirrel, and characters of her own. It was kind of intimidating to watch her transform, almost instantly, into this other being. Her face and eyes changed, as well as her mannerisms. She wasn't a voiceover artist, but her uncle was the voice of Tony the Tiger and many other well-known characters. He also sang the Grinch song (You're a mean one... Mr. Grinch), and June Foray was also a character in that. I'm sure they were well acquainted.

I work with a lot of the people who voice cartoons in LA. Most don't break into characters, but you can hear the characters in their natural voices. June didn't break into characters except once when she did "Natasha" for me. Check McCann, OTOH, would slip onto all his voices, most recognizable being "Koo-Koo-for CoCo Puffs." Nearly every Sat.nite I play a midnight show for stand ups, writers, etc. and have met most of the VO talent from that show. Great folks! Many also do puppeteering, and voice their creations. It's my favorite part of living in LA and one of my fav parts of living, period.
