Softube Bass Amp Room

Post by bayswater »

Can anyone recommend this, and say how it compares to Live Room B? I heard it on a short passage on one track on an A/B demo against a DI signal, and it sounded great, but didn't hear enough to go and buy it.

I own it, but never use it. I used MOTU's guitar and bass room plugs for awhile, but now I just re-amp if someone sends me a DI track, and for MIDI library guitar tracks I tend to just go with AMPLITUBE emulations.

I found MOTU's plug-in more flexible overall, for more genres and more mic setups. The Softube plug seems very specific.

Thanks. That was my impression from the on line description.

Late to this party..but..

I use the UA Ampeg amp plugins, which are
great. Pretty much my go-to bass amp plugins.
I had Softube Bass Amp Room and used it for
a long time, but when UA's Ampeg bass amps
became available, I retired Bass Amp Room.
Interestingly, the UA Ampegs were developed by
Softube. I guess it was the "smarter" dev team that
did UA's bass amps.

I found that the Bass Amp Room amps lacked
focus and detail..the sound was always kind of tubby
and muddy and you couldnt get the clear articulation
of the bass strings unless you cranked up the high
EQ to ridiculous levels.

Softube continues to improve, and indeed is behind a lot of other-branded software, but I don't think they often revisit to improve older products.

My issues with Bass Amp Room are exactly as Dave describes, but it was the first high-end bass product (GK's software fills an interesting niche, as does Peavey's, but both are likewise quite specific and also aren't all that high-end).

I do like IK Multimedia's Ampeg emulations though, for processing DI's (mixed with live mics on other amps).

I have tried Softube, but I will ditto David's remarks on the UA Ampeg plug-ins. Best bass sound I ever got. Always the first thing I'll try.
