The show must go on! Even under the stage!

Post by Shooshie »

Brazilian Pianist Eliane Rodrigues Takes it down under The stage, that is.

In true American spirit, this lady decides the show must go on, and she goes wherever it takes her... and back again. You've got to admit that you've NEVER seen a performance like this before. And probably never will.

Wow! I have to forward this to my wife.

The first piano has to be one of the finest Steinway Ds I have ever heard. Beautifully recorded, too, in its original position. Would love to know how it was mic'd.

As nice as the Chopin was, the Arabesque from Debussy's Pour le Piano knocked me out. I'll have to look for an unedited recording of her playing it.

She took what could have been a boring or uncomfortable time period for the audience -- and made it into very personal performance that they will NEVER forget.

I thought she was downright cute, the way she feigned "goodbye" as she disappeared, and looked elated as she returned. Then she manhandled that piano to get the keyboard to the "middle! Middle!" And without missing a beat, sat down and hit the opening chords of the Chopin Fantasie, before the workers were even off the stage. No diva there! That's a fun lady. Quite a talent, too. Those pieces are hard enough when the piano is not a moving target! And yeah, if I were really pressured into mentioning it, I'd probably have to admit that she's not hard to look at, either. Well, she has my respect, for sure!

Grace under fire personified! 8) I wonder how many divas would have used this as an opportunity for a nasty tantrum.

I don't know. I've seen a number of mishaps in the world of classical/dance/opera over the years and all were handled well. Not going to hijack this thread with some of those stories.
