UA offering FINANCING now?!

Post by James Steele »

Just received an email moments ago from UA I thought at first was an announcement that they're going subscription like Slate, etc. Turns out, they're now offering payment plans through a company called Affirm on bundles, etc.

I dunno. I guess they're offering that to increase their sales. I haven't bought any new plugs for my UAD-2 since I realized it was obsolete, preferring to go native when possible. I just work on my own stuff lately. Part of me is thinking that if I need to borrow money to buy plug-ins, maybe I shouldn't be buying them?

Truer words, etc.

Now, if you were buying a AU bundle with a big ol' expensive Apollo interface and a bunch of plugs, you might consider short term financing, but... no, not normally.

I've just started using my UAD-2 card more than usual, BTW. It was Ocean Way Studios what done it.

Yeah. I have a UAD-2 DUO, but I just know that unless I am planning on buying an Apollo someday, I'm going to hit the obsolescence wall someday.

Playing Devil's Advocate here...

I normally buy plugs etc. when someone has given me a budget. Spending $600 each on Band-in-a-Box and Komplete ... that's already paid for by the deposits on two projects.

However, there are times when a sale price is just too good on something and I know I will need it eventually. That Sweetwater and GC often give me 24–36 months to pay interest-free will push me to buy sooner that later. My RX 6 A upgrade @ $299 over 24 months? Yea, I'm good with that.

I try to restrict this to purchases I know I will make eventually. Otherwise the "new, shiny, gotta have it!" impulse will put me into the poorhouse—many times over.
