Is the converse also true? Inactivity is not necessarily sloth?MIDI Life Crisis wrote:"Don't mistake activity [as] achievement."

Sometimes activity is achievement. Especially getting out of bed when I'd would rather just lie there.
I think Mr. Wooden was frustrated with someone that day.

Re: Thought for the day
"work smart." I remember some boss telling me that. But I didn't realize at the time that I wasn't smart. I probably need him to be more specific: "Take your time and think about ways that you can be more efficient-- save steps, etc."
I have students who put in the practice time, but because they don't really strive to refine their playing (i.e., correcting some known issues with their technique, intonation, etc.)-- they end up just wasting time, or worse, galvanizing bad habits. I'm sure I did that along my way, too.
However, over the years, I've found sometimes that the seemingly random and meandering path (which is often my way) can yield very satisfying results-- just not what I might have expected at the beginning. There's now an educational movement based on ancient Polynesian navigators called "Project Wayfinder" which in essence celebrates the less-than-linear path that some kids must take to achieve success.

Lyric from asong I recorded for a client centuries ago....
"nothing is nothing and that's all there is"
Thought it fitting for this thread...
Not sure why
