You got a quarter inch? Most of us who live in California are thinking that you're pretty lucky.Phil O wrote:We've been experiencing the worst drought since we moved here in 1977. It hasn't rained here since June. So on a positive note we had a short thunderstorm today. We probably only got about 1/4 inch or so, but at this point we'll take what we can get. Yay!!!!!!

Re: Positive
We have had the coolest August possibly in the history of this area. I've never seen anything like it. June and July had given us continuous 100°+ weather, usually in the range of 104 to 108, "feels like" 112 to 120. We'd had a wet spring, so the grass was doing pretty well, but I was worried about August. August in Texas is usually unbearable, followed by September, which is just an extension of summer, and October which is more of the same. Our first cool weather usually happens after October 31.
But this year, August has been wet and cool. Tons of rain, thanks to a hurricane near Baja California that has blown a jet over the mountains of Mexico and into our desert and high plains. That mixes with the Gulf air, and becomes the recipe for our terrible storms in the spring, but this summer it has just given us the most wonderful coolness and green lawns, something I've never seen this time of year, at least not for more than a day. We've had weeks of it! Wonderful stuff!
