Yeah, I always loved hearing Stanley and bro/etc. on NPR over the years. Never liked Bluegrass but they referred to his music as "Old Time Music" which is sort of a hybrid of Bluegrass (or proto-Bluegrass), Folk Music and a few other things.
Mostly, Ralph Stanley just always seemed like he was coming from a very deep place in his soul, very authentic, warm, energetic, but not repetitive. A unique voice. He will be missed, but lived a good long life, and influenced countless musicians.
