This must be particularly hard on Wendy Melvoin, as her keyboardist brother died while touring with Smashing Pumpkins a number of years ago.

That's cool that you got to spend some time with her and Lisa Coleman, Michael. Several of my co-workers have worn different hats over the years where they produced or engineered some famous people, and I almost invariably hear positive stories about "easy to work with", "organized", "professional", etc. Despite what the press would have us believe, prima donnas don't tend to last.

Prince was private in his philanthropy, but now some of that activity is starting to become known.

Turns out that he gave a lot of money for free solar panels for poor neighbourhoods in Oakland, as well as money for technical training in schools in poor districts.

It's also been said that many of his impromptu concerts were really about him popping in to this or that city to see the progress on his donations.
