Opinions Please- Apple Alchemy Plugin?

Post by wdegillio »

Just curious- I'd love to hear some opinions on this. What are the chances that Apple (in its infinite wisdom (or, wizdom, if your last name is Rudess and your first initial is a J)) will release Alchemy as a separate AU or VST plugin? They could price it somewhere between $30 and $200, and I personally think it would sell pretty well (but then I don't have any new hardware to sell you next month on the 9th!)
What say you; slim to none- or better?

They'll release it like they've released all their other plugins...

not at all.

This thread on the subject has a lot more posts.

You might get more of a discussion over there.

BTW, I agree with Robert. Don't hold your breath or hold up a project waiting for that to happen -- ever.

If the goal is to sell Apple hardware, then no.

Looks uni-nanimus to me.
Even though I have the original version of Alchemy, I will probably "future-proof" myself by buying MainStage and doing the InterApplication MIDI-SoundFlower thing. There may even be some other plugins or samples in MainStage that I can use!

I hope Soundflower continues to be kept operational by Rogue Amoeba.

I had hoped something like SF would have been built into coreaudio by this late date.

CoreAudio making it easy to record copyrighted streaming? I don't see something like that happening ever.

I could be wrong.

I suppose so, but Apple is a bit mixed on this. You can do it now with Quicktime for video.

iOS has Inter-App Audio, it's not a far stretch. Apple is good at sandboxing apps, I'm sure they could have it enables for only certain applications and make sure the code is not available for browsers to use the API or whatever else like spotify...

Otherwise, maybe it would be nice to see an application like AudioBus developed for Mac. Like a DAW independent V-Rack?

I think you'd see EXS24 made available outside Logic (as it's an older product) before Alchemy 2.0.

In both cases, the probability factor is insignificantly differentiated as one over infinity vs. one over infinity-aleph.
