Play 4.2.35 update from 28 May 2015 blanks its GUI?

Post by mhschmieder »

Anyone else seeing this? The GUI paints itself quickly, then flashes to lots of greyed out and empty placeholder rectangles. Yet if you click on whichever instrument preset is selected in the right-most column (not that you can tell which one it is), you'll see the progress bar and then the keyboard lights up and can be used to play it.

At first, I thought my licenses were corrupted or unauthorized (even though Play is iLok-protected) due to switching hard drives this week, but even after a reinstall and updating iLok, the same problem occurred with each Play instrument (but not with Spaces Reverb).

Maybe the new version is only compatible with Yosemite? Their website says Leopard and above though.

I am talking about standalone mode BTW, as I haven't had a chance to launch DP for a day or two due to the intensity of recovering licenses and reauthorizing products on the new hard drive.

No luck so far. I uninstalled 4.2.35 and installed 4.2.2, to no avail.

Given that the PLAY engine works fine, and can load from any of the libraries, and that the only thing missing from the GUI is text (rendering it fairly useless, of course), I think this is a fonts issue.

There are no duplicate fonts on my system.

Should I restore system fonts, or might that remove non-system fonts that stuff like DP depends on?

Maybe this problem will fix itself when I upgrade to Yosemite sometime in the next few days.

I'm pretty sure it's a missing font issue and that the culprit is the demo of CleanMyMac that I foolishly ran a few weeks ago.

I don't expect the problem to resolve itself until I upgrade to Yosemite later this week, but that's OK because I hardly ever use Play as it's rare that I need a sound from those libraries that doesn't have a better and more flexible version elsewhere in my arsenal.
