DP and notation experiences

Post by jlaudon »

Just wondering if there was any news about upgrading DP9's notation features?

I had a piano MIDI file that I needed to get into a pdf format, so my first stop was Sibelius 7.5 - imported it into Sibelius, but it looked like a train wreck, didn't separate the staffs into treble and bass...etc.

Then I loaded it into DP8, in which the notation (Quickscribe) is fairly reliable, but still basic lacking in features (like sustain pedal markings, etc). It was usable, but then I thought I'd load the file into Logic X just to see how it would show up.

But, I have to say (with reluctance...), the notation part in Logic is way more advanced than most I've seen, everything showed up right, and all the pedal markings were there, and huge amounts of tweakable parameters, all kinds of dynamics and articulation markings to choose from.

So here's hoping DP9 can up the game in notation, but it's going to be formidable with what's out there already.

It would be nice but I doubt much has been done in that regard.

All that's been announced is export to MusicXML.

If Logic solved your immediate problem, that's good. Logic Pro X can export as MusicXML which you should be able to import into Sibelius. If not, there are free plugins on the MusicXML site.

If DP 9 includes MusicXML import functionality as well, that will be huge but I am not getting my hopes up. If it's export only like Logic...

MusicXML is owned by Finale and the developer is a friend of mine.
