Don't believe no hype
I'm a noob still evaluating DP8, but I am excited about making the switch. So I saw the DP9 preview at NAMM video, and I thought 2 months later there would be some blog posts or early previews (reviews) featured in music magazines or something... nup... zero... zilch (unless you include forum discussions).
Really strange for such a venerable DAW.

Re: Don't believe no hype
Not at all, really. MOTU normally releases DP in late Spring, Early Fall, or January 1. At least, those are the most common dates that keep popping up over the years. So, an announcement at NAMM would generate some interest and excitement, yet most of us know not to expect anything until late Spring. In the past, MOTU was tight-lipped about any new releases. You did not even know they were working on anything until it showed up on their website, ready to go. This talking about things in advance is a new deal for MOTU, and I like it. It keeps the interest going.tezza1971 wrote:I'm a noob still evaluating DP8, but I am excited about making the switch. But don't expect any other announcements, emails, letters, or such until it's released. That's just MOTU's way.

To quote Yoda: always looking to the future this one is. Never seeing where he was.
DP9 will arrive. DP8 is great.
What are you waiting for?

If you buy DP8 now, you will get the DP9 upgrade for free.
I have seen multiple people that have confirmed this, and I myself have confirmed it with MOTU.

Look at it this way:!More time for fixes, implementation of some feature requests thrown about here, testing. Dave himself said at NAMM that more was to come

True enough. MOTU is notoriously tight-lipped, and I have to believe it's played a role in its longevity.mikehalloran wrote:Not all companies are that wise.

Re: Don't believe no hype
Today (in another thread) Gabe posted that Matt at MOTU had informed him that they are reworking the way MIDI Automation works, in addition to the "Lanes" they announced at NAMM. So, that's another bread-crumb, leading to the ultimate release date. Works for me. I find that exciting, and yet he didn't say how or what they are doing, just that their team had looked at all of it, and was looking at ways to make things better.
Of course, I immediately am thinking rockets, satellites, borrowed time on supercomputers that fine-tune your mix with minimal input from you. The reality will probably be a little more focused. But hey, just the hint of improvements in the pipeline keeps my popcorn popper popping!

Re: Don't believe no hype
Same here, 'Meister.
It's pathetic I know, but I've always found the mere thought of the Gods of MOTU's looking at something in DP immensely exciting. I feel that as a collective, their take on any given issue is an enhanced/expanded version of our own. That they, in their wisdom, somehow manage to account for the myriad issues, pitfalls and gotchas that we mere mortal Unicorns gloss over or miss entirely in our collective fits of enthusiasm.
Just sayin' I wholeheartedly concur, my dear friend. Bring it on, MOTU!
