Aw, it's not like I don't appreciate the advice! I'm just not in a very good position to do that right now. I've so outgrown the space I've got, there are a lot of projects that just never get done. Back when I had all the space I could use, I always had my soldering iron on my workbench, and a lot of other tools, too. I didn't hesitate to add a key to my saxophones, then polish and lacquer it. I made or repaired a lot of cables back then, and I still have bulk wiring for that purpose somewhere out in the garage. But I don't have a lot of room now, and every action requires reconfiguring the space I have, which I do pretty much every day for something or another.

Coincidentally, on Thursday I'm taking three of my saxophones to a trusted instrument technician to make and add those very same keys to them. I added them to three other saxes over thirty years ago, two of which I've since sold, so I've been waiting years to add the key to some of these. It's a sensitive thing, requiring expert work that in the past I only trusted myself to do. That's how much trouble it is, now, for me to do that kind of work. So I'm just taking them to someone who will do a better job than I am able to do these days, and who can leave their shop set up 24/7.

But I kept a PDF of the Rane guide, and I will definitely use that when we move to our next place, probably in the next 3 years.

Ha! More like "I know it's out there, and I'm gonna find if it kills me or breaks my bank account, which ever comes first!" Which isn't entirely unlike my approach to practicing.

Should be here tomorrow, if not today. Will report on it. If it's like most Behringer gear I've been getting lately, it's going to be very competent, a huge bargain for the price, while not necessarily the best available if you're willing to spend a LOT more.

Behringer started off cheap and unreliable. They got better and better, and now some of their stuff is usable in a pro studio. I have several items now that I could not have gotten anywhere else at higher quality for any price. Sometimes you just have to revise your impressions of a company. Or a person. So, yeah, I'm as curious about the quality of the HA8000 as anyone here. If it has low self-noise, clear fidelity and response when there is a lot going on in the sound, then I'll be impressed. Of course, to beat the little HA400 headphone amp that's plugged into my mixing board right now, it basically just has to show up. ANYTHING has to be better than that thing! It's also a Behringer product... so I guess it's still Caveat Emptor with those guys.
