Re: You gotta be kidding me: Gibson launches Les Paul monito
Well... you never know. They don't look too impressive, but we'd have to hear them before making that judgment. Neodymium is good. I think I'd have recessed the tweeter to the same plane as the woofer, but who knows? I mean, you really can't tell until you hear it. I hope that's a veneer, and that they haven't tried to make reverberant wood panels, like a guitar top. That would probably sound terrible, but there I go speculating. It's probably just a veneer.mhschmieder wrote:http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2015/01/ ... -monitors/
I've got nothing. Someone's going to have to go hear them.

I believe Gibson owns KRK, so wouldn't be unusual for them to offer monitors, and Les Paul fans might find these cool. Regardless, they don't look aesthetically pleasing to me, so I won't be interested in buying them.

Re: You gotta be kidding me: Gibson launches Les Paul monito
Ah, yes, that explains it! I was scratching my head trying to figure out which Gibson-owned brand would be the source of these loudspeakers, and had forgotten they purchased KRK! I was thinking Tascam and wondering if they had the know-how to deliver anything beyond a joke when it comes to studio monitors.
KRK's tend to be a bit muddy in the bass (except their high-end stuff), and have long been bettered (at the same price) by JBL's LSR series, but their very bias (like Mackie's) can make them popular with genre-specific producers and musicians who want that specific bias (though I'm not sure mixing that way would produce the results they intended, with the target audience).
At any rate, I think they're hideous, but that's also how I feel about PRS Guitars and most of Gibson's flamed tops (Schecter is about the only company that does flamed tops that appeal to me).
This is an interesting trend as well though, as more and more brands are trying to cover the entire range of audio products, even if via rebranding of other products from the parent holding company's conglomeration of companies. For instance, PRS and Schecter are now making guitar amps. Maybe speakers are next?

I'm introducing a line of douchebags in the spring.

I can't see these being big sellers except to the hard core Les Paul fans, and perhaps collectors.mhschmieder wrote:At any rate, I think they're hideous

I wanna see what they come up with for the Rheinhart, Hendrix, Winter, and Beck (Jeff) models.

The Hendrix monitors will be left handed.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I wanna see what they come up with for the Rheinhart, Hendrix, Winter, and Beck (Jeff) models.
Oh, and the Hendrix and Beck monitors will be modeled after the famous "Gibson Strats" they use(d).

Yeesh. I feel dirty. I think this perfectly conveys how gullible Gibson must think the public is.

Hmmm... I wonder how much to add binding to my old Event ASP8s. I, too, could then have ebony Les Paul Standard monitors.
