Thanks, Frodo. The things a freakin' rocket. Still have to migrate from a Time Machine backup and configure-out the peripherals. The HDMI out is convenient. Snappy is an understatement.

Have great ringing in of the new year as only HOBbits can. Hope to see ya' soon. :woohoo:

That's really nice! I hope it works well for you.

Meanwhile, I have to figure out whether I feel envy, for obvious reasons, or dread that I might actually go through with it and get one. I do not want to buy new peripherals and all that. Oh well, for now I'm fine where I am. My Mac Pro is only going to be 3 years old this March.

If you lust for additional speed, and don't wish to buy new peripherals, pick up a couple of those X5680s @ $200 each., drop in, and tune on!

Going from a 3,1 to 6,1 is a great move MLC! Congrats, and enjoy! Now all you need is one of those really sweet new MOTU interfaces...

I went with a late 2013 4 core as I'll keep my 8 core MP to farm stuff like VIs. The Time Machine backup has yet to migrate. It has been freezing at various points (1:39, :14, and :02 minutes left. I have to migrate via a TB->FW 800 in a CalDigit enclosure. And want to blame that but I've seen the TM fail like this with Migration Ass. before. Pretty annoying. I won't have the 8 core back until Tuesday. The graphics card died which prompted the purchase. Several projects are in the works and I have to get back up and running ASAP. I can get the tech guys to pull the drive off the 8 core and do a manual copy but it sure would be nice if TM would behave itself.

The little I got to play with before the migration attempt was pretty cool. It'll be interesting to see what authorizations carry forward.

I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. So I keep telling myself.

Current OS. I didn't need one either until work came to a screeching halt. Given the age of my MP I decided it was best to bite the bullet. Still not up and running and that is annoying given the cost. But if I have to go the manual restore route so be it.
