The last I heard is that Stefano was working on it and that it would be a free upgrade. That was in 2012, so I don't know what's going on.mikehalloran wrote:Any word on when it will be 64bit?
Right now, it's nice to have FGX and other 32-bit plugs available to it.

Oh yeah... so I can keep DP in 64 and use DSPQ for 32 bit stuff (of which I have little). It's getting better all the time. Better, better, better. Getting so much better all the time.

I just heard back from Stefano. He wrote:mikehalloran wrote:Any word on when it will be 64bit?
I'm working hard on the next version 5. It is a totally rewritten application and, among the others, it is a 64 app with a 64 bits audio engine. It is scheduled for the public release on December.

I'll be glad when 32/64 bit conundrums are long forgotten.

What's the conundrum? What advantage would there be of DSP-Q running natively as 64-bit?Shooshie wrote:I'll be glad when 32/64 bit conundrums are long forgotten.

It runs fine as a 32-bit app in 64-bit Mavericks - as does Ableton Live 9, for example.

This does look like a sweet deal, but I'm going to be the Stupid Question Asker (SQA is a title handed out at corporate team-building exercises, where it's described as a good thing) and ask:
If DP sounds so good (as we all agree it does), and we have so many excellent sounding multiband compressors, linear EQs and more in our plug-in folders, why would one not just master stereo files in DP with those plugs?
That's what I do now, and I can't see a reason for another program for the task. I'm not being snide or snarky here, I'm genuinely asking what I'm missing.

I'll be using it to replace Toast to master CDs as the CD creation looks great and I can still tweet stuff in that process. More control.
Now if DP's CD worked better I would agree with you. Then again, one can't have too many good tools. I might not need that security screw driver set for $35, but the first time I needed it, it saved me about $80 in tech fees (plus parts).
For me, THAT'S why.
And new toys are a fun challenge.

For starters, DP can't create DDP files, burn a CD from them, or play back a DDP fileset.Gravity Jim wrote:This does look like a sweet deal, but I'm going to be the Stupid Question Asker (SQA is a title handed out at corporate team-building exercises, where it's described as a good thing) and ask:

DP can't insert ISRC codes into tracks, AFAIK.
The CD Layout window in DSP-Q is very convenient for CD assembly; DP doesn't have anything like it.
I still use DP for sonic adjustments when mastering because I'm accustomed to the workflow, then move to DSP-Q for assembling and exporting the master.

Re: DSP Quattro for $49 - limited time sale
My understanding is that a 32 bit host can't use 64 bit plugins. I've pretty much done away with my 32 bit plugins. I guess they still exist in a backup somewhere, but I don't want to fool with all that. I just want simplicity.BobK wrote:What's the conundrum? ... and MX4! LOL...
Re: DSP Quattro for $49 - limited time sale
I'm also not clear on what is gained by a 64 bit version of DSP-Q. It loads most if not all my plugins. I haven't checked all of them. I suppose most of my plugins might have code for 32 and 64 bit hosts.Shooshie wrote:My understanding is that a 32 bit host can't use 64 bit plugins. I've pretty much done away with my 32 bit plugins.
