He does a nice solo on this Ambrosia track @3:27 - a favorite of mine.

RIP Joe Sample

Post by frankf »

I had the pleasure of being with the opening act (Gato Barbieri) for a Crusaders tour and of having several long conversations with Joe. In one of these we talked about the role of the piano in a rhythm ensemble. To him the piano was "the glue that held groove together". Being a pianist, I've not forgotten that. Others may disagree but, then again, he was Joe Sample. RIP Joe.

Nice story, Frank.

May Joe rest in peace. We've sure lost a lot of good people in recent years, recent months.

Before there was digital sampling, there was Joe Sample, and he was great. RIP.
