Very cool! It would be fun to see what kinds of water "sculpture" you could do with a little more complicated setup. That is unbelievably simple to do. They just literally duck taped a water hose to a speaker, and used a synth to produce an inaudibly low frequency (24 hz).

Then... if there were a way to SEE it in real life, people could make some crazy sculptures. Hey! Of course you can do that! Lighting at night would open the door to all kinds of things! Lasers or even just LED lighting that turned on and off 24 times a second, or even more complex at different frequencies.

A person so inclined could create all kinds of sequences timed between water and lighting so that complex shapes would be created in real time and appear to float in the air, or dance with the music. What a cool idea! I could see someone in Las Vegas making that happen inside a casino/hotel. They spend all kinds of bucks on those kinds of displays. The Bellagio used to have an amazing garden of dancing water inside the lobby. Of course, the Bellagio is themed in water, what with the dancing fountains outside, and the "O" show inside. (which may be gone now; I haven't checked in a few years) For those who have never seen it or thought about it, the "O" show is about water. "Eau." Get it? So this kind of thing would make for a great display in the Bellagio!

not exactly what you suggest, but cool anyway: https://vimeo.com/45223083

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

Cool. Sort of like an inkjet printer. I don't think there are any phase manipulations going on, or we'd be seeing junk in the video where it interferes with the video frame rate. Still cool, though, and it is an example of how much has been done already.

There's just no telling what people could create with this stuff. Imagine 3-dimensional pictures (sculptures?) that seem to float in the sky, entirely made of water. I can see how that would be possible with the right approach.

FYI: high speed photography of liquids, the first sound-driven, the second, a brief video of handmade water sculptures...

Beautiful stuff! Now, to get it to "freeze" in space where you can look at it, through oscillations in the water, and phase lighting! Surely it can be done, somehow.

Some of my work, inspired in part by how non-newtonian fluids behave:

I think someone may have posted this before, but a quick search here didn't turn up anything, so here FYI, an interesting article and some nice pictures...
  • 'What does music look like?

That’s the question German artist Martin Klimas has set out to answer through his stunning series of photographs. Or perhaps it’s the question “can you make paint dance?” – Either way, we love this vibrant collection of images that manage to capture paint splattering to the rhythm of music...'

I wouldn't be too sure about that. They've exploited that trick for about all it's worth, including slo-mo real-time projections on screen. It's really a funny act, and quite technical. I love those guys!
