Amplitube 3.12 update - includes new Engl amps

Post by David Polich »

Just updated to version 3.12 of Amplitube 3. It includes two new Engl amp emulations.

If you already had the "Anger" amp (iK's "unofficial" Engl emulation) then after you run the
update that will show up as the "official" Engl Powerball amp. So you don;t have to buy the
Engl again if you already owned the "Anger" amp. The "Anger" amp is gone, actually.

FWIW, the "new" Engl amp sounds pretty darn good. I prefer it over UAD's Engel amps which
to me are too muffled and boxy sounding.

The 3.12 update is free to registered Amplitube 3 owners.

Thanks, Dave -- I didn't see my Anger replaced by Engl but will check again (I thought I refreshed my licenses or whatever the terminology is they use inside the Custom Shop). The other one had already become one of my favourites and I have leftover credits so might complete the package.

OK, did the update, then "Restore My Gear", and now have ENGL Powerball.

I wanted to use a portion of my remaining credits to buy the two ENGL cabinets, but am having the usual problems with Custom Shop not working properly.

It's one thing for it to keep asking me to re-download what I just installed, while looking at the shop etc. It's another thing entirely, and beyond merely annoying, to not be able to buy other stuff because I'm supposedly out of date even though I am fully up to date.

I wonder if this is a Mavericks problem, since this issue started when I upgraded to Mavericks and hasn't gone away since. It affects AmpliTube more severely than T-RackS.

Edit: How weird; on a whim, I launched AmpliTube standalone and clicked its Custom Shop button, and when I do it that way vs. bringing up Custom Shop via its dedicated application, it knows its up to date and let me buy the two ENGL cabinets.

I think I remember that iK Multimedia, in some "Read Me" some time ago, recommended
always launching Amplitube in standalone mode after updating, and accessing the Custom
Shop from there. I've always done this, even when there wasn't a Custom Shop, I'd update
Amplitube and then launch it in standalone mode just to make sure it was working (a couple
of versions of Amplitube 2 didn't work after updating).

Also, it's best to open the installer .dmg and run the "Uninstall Amplitube" app first, taking care not to delete your presets and patches (it prompts you), and then running the installer.

Thanks; I was afraid to uninstall as one never knows in advance how much control one will have and how much damage might be done.

Altiverb usually benefits from doing an uninstall first as well, but I've stopped doing that because it's too hard to find my notes on how to re-enable the screen saver afterwards (though I think I wrote up all the steps somewhere in this forum).
