Keycode "oopsie!"

Post by James Steele »

Note to self: it's not a good idea to toss out the manual to your old version of DP because you might decide you want to install it on an older computer someday and you'll forget that they keycode you need to authorize it to run is on a label inside the back cover of the manual you threw away! :) :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Yeah... I usually add them as contacts in my Mac Address Book app. I messed up. Oh... but I HAVE my DP 7 keycode... but guess what... the disc is scratched and won't install. I have on old iBook G4 I want to use for something. Truthfully I really want to put 7.24 on it (if it will work) so I can use DP Control with it.

As a registered user you can download a full installer for 7.24. And if what MOTU told gravspen is right, you can "buy" a keycode from anyone that has upgraded to V8. But surely MOTU will help you out with the lost keycode?

Surely MOTU will on Monday. But unless I'm missing something you cannot download "full installers"... just update installers. At least that's what I saw when I checked just now.

Oops! Nevermind... I found it! Happy happy joy, joy!!

EDIT: Of course, I will probably still need to put my original disc in the drive and it has read errors, so hopefully it will work well enough to authorize!

Good. I think the downloads are generally just updates, but 7.24 is the exception. It had something to do with the transition away from Rosetta.

Well the plot thickens. This just ISN'T going to go smoothly for me. My old iBook G4 has had problems updating to 10.5.8. The combo updater crashes during install at different points during the process. And guess what... DP 7.24 requires 10.5.8... nothing less than that. So I can't install on 10.5.0. :banghead: :banghead:

Oh and yes... I've formatted the drive, reinstalled 10.5.0, then immediately ran the combo updater for 10.5.8 and tried it again with 10.5.7. Next up, I will have to try every update one at a time, and go 10.5.1... 10.5.2... and so on. Ugh...

I don't envy you. Been there! I generally have to give up my old machines for that reason, but ironically, I still have my 7600 or 7800 (I can't remember which) and SVP can still run on it. I never do, but just having it in the closet is comfort.

If your CD gives you grief, get some Brasso. Among its many uses is that it is an excellent plastic polish. I have never seen a disk gouged so deeply that Brasso can't restore it with a bit of elbow grease.
