Cleaning Auralex Foam?
A couple of non-mounted panels were left in a storage room for use when needed and our cat "adopted" them for her own along with cat relevant issues...need to thoroughly clean.
I Googled and really only found one suggestion. Take it (them) outside and hose them down and brush with a mild detergent.
Anyone have a better/another idea?
My wife (and I) thank you.

You really need an enzymatic odor remover such as Simple Solutions (found at nearly all pet stores). I'd wash them down with vinegar first. It may take several treatments to make them usable.

What cuttime said, but first you may need to put the up against a chain-link fence and spray with a high-power nozzle. There's a nozzle called the "Little Big Shot" available at Home Depot which gives a water hose an unusually powerful spray, simply because of the way it's designed. That might help if it doesn't actually break the foam pieces. (Test first on an old one, maybe) Or just use a regular garden sprayer, though it may not get the penetration.cuttime wrote:You really need an enzymatic odor remover such as Simple Solutions (found at nearly all pet stores). Cat stuff is amazingly difficult to remove. A vengeful cat in Las Vegas once took revenge on our project for invading his house by systematically using all coils of cable as his toilet. The owner of the cat scrubbed the cables, soaked them, treated them with something (I don't know what, but maybe vinegar or pine-oil or whatever), and in the end they felt clean to touch, but the smell never completely went away. So... good luck. At some point you have to ask yourself how much a couple of new panels cost, vs. how much time it takes to achieve, well, whatever you can achieve.

Re: Cleaning Auralex Foam?
Thanks, guys.
I'll give it a shot. Some panels are OK on one half, for instance, so I might just cut away the bad part.
And, I had thought about "time is money" and just might order 4 or so and keep them "safe".

One thing to consider is what impact (if any) cleaning agents will have on fire retardants that may have been used. Just a heads up.

Whenever I have asked questions like this, manufacturers recommend Dove dishwashing detergent after the enzyme solution to remove as much of the remainder as possible. Not certain why Dove but that seems to be the choice.

Cats love dove.
I'd say toss 'em. Between the hair and odor, simply not worth it.

Yeah, the last thing you want is to be using those as gobos and some vocalist takes a deep breath and goes "Eewwwww!"
"... and when she passes, each one she passes goes... EWWWW!"

Some of the younger board members may not get this lyric!Shooshie wrote:Yeah, the last thing you want is to be using those as gobos and some vocalist takes a deep breath and goes "Eewwwww!"

Not the hit version but my favorite. From the tv show where they were promoting the album. It's near the end of this seven minute medley. Relax and enjoy...
