First off, please forgive my ignorance as I know virtually nothing about keyboards. I'm posting this for a friend who is retiring his old Roland D20 and has purchased a Juno Di. He has spent a great deal of time tweaking sounds on the D20 and wants to know if there's a way to transfer his user library (or whatever it's called) to the new board. Any of you keyboard guys know if this is possible?
Thanks,
Phil

One of the problems is that the patch architecture is very different between units and there's not any app that translates. What I've done with my D50 keyboard is to use it like any other outboard MIDI rack module. Just leave it hooked up and use the new keyboard to play it. I rarely take the cover off except to tweak the occasional patch. If he has his D-20 patch lists already configured for his DAW, it's the easiest thing to do if you want to keep the sounds.

Thanks Naz. He's not using it with a DAW. This is for live performance. The reason he got a new unit is because the D20 has an intermittent crash problem and just ain't worth repairing at this point, so using it in any capacity on the gig isn't an option.

Or, create SoundFont(s) for it?

Here is a program for Mac:

iMac9,1, 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB-RAM, 10.9.5
DP 8.07, 828MKIII, Keys-Fantom X8, XV-88. Key

SampleTank v2.5.4, Miroslav Philharmonik v1.1.2, SampleMoog v1.02, SampleTron v1.02, Sonik Synth 2 v2.1.1, Independence Pro v3.2.0126, EZDrummer 1.4, MDrummer Large 5.02, Komplete U9, Orchestral Essential 1, Orchestral Essential 2, Complete Orchestral Collection

So how does he get the data from the D20 to a Mac?

Hello Phil,
With this program, he'll have to record each note from each patch then, save it has a SounFont.
It's alot of work and it's the only solution I know. In prior post on this thread, same applies to import into a sampler.

There comes a time with all things that you should start thinking in a new direction. Since there is no VI for that ax as there is for the Wavestation, M1, etc., my only suggestion is to either get a used version of whatever you're trying to replace or move to something else.

The cheap psychologist in me is left wondering why we humans become so attached to tools that have become overused and blunted. I so miss my sq-80, and the Morpheus was a grand replacement. But the v-synth has won my heart and when it goes... I'll move to something else. What I won't do is live in the past (with apologies to Ian Anderson).

ps - there are a lot if used D-20s out there. Hint, hint.

Yeah, I hear ya MLC. The situation is this. This is one of the guys from the band I recently joined. He likes the Juno, but hasn't got all his patches adjusted yet, and we're playing a lot through New Year's Eve. The D20 started crashing on him last week and he picked up the Juno. He was just hoping there'd be a quick way to get to square one at least until we have some time to breathe and get everything adjusted. You know how tough it is to break in new gear in the middle of a busy season.

Personally, I liked some of the new patches on the Juno he was using the other night, but the band leader was not happy (and that's the guy you gotta please :? ).

I think he'll stick with the Juno. It really has got better sounds. He just has to get things adjusted to the boss's likings, if you know what I mean.
