iPad 4 owners: sales guy says MUST use screen protector?

Post by emulatorloo »

I just got one of these on the target special trade in deal.

http://dealmac.com/iPad-Trade-In-at-Tar ... 94584.html

The salesguy said the the 4th glass is very "soft" such that if you get finger prints on the screen they will not clean off.

So he said you MUST put a screen protector on it.

I said my iPad 2 screen always cleaned up perfectly with soft cloth and a little water.

He said 4th gens have been known to hold some fingerprints that you can never clean off.

Does this make any sense to you?

I guess I could put a screen protector on it, but I hate those things.

Thanks for all help.

"Soft" glass that holds fingerprints? Total BS. There would be worldwide outrage if that story had even an atom of truth.

How do you even come up with a story like that? Sheesh.

Thank you, gentlemen. It did sound crazy to me. But knew I could count on you guys to set me straight.

My guess is this guy had a serious case of upsellitus.

His 'explanation' was that Apple changed to 'soft' glass because it was less likely to break than the 'hard' glass of iPad 1/2/3.

Now off to do the fetishistic un-boxing, fondling and initial set-up. :woohoo:

I got bamboozled with that 20 years ago. I had to take the car in every year for inspection to keep the warranty, and when the coating started peeling off in year 4, the warranty was voided because the coating was peeling, and therefore exposing the paint underneath to the elements.

When buying an optical cable (for my home surround system) I queried with the salesman why the brand 'A' cable was 2x the price of brand 'B'. His answer?
...it costs more because it is faster...
As far was we know, of course, the only thing in the Universe that isn't relative is the speed of light, but I guess not in this case.
Cheers,
BK

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

Quality connectors shouldn't be underestimated nor should general craftsmanship, good shielding, etc. but I agree the monster priced cables just gobble up your $$$.

Do they still sell the cables that a different for different types of music? I kid you not, they used to sell guitar cables that were "optimized" for jazz and another one "optimized" for rock. I posted a pic here years ago I think. Laughed my ass off at that one. :)

I think in my case the pitch was less low (maybe high) frequency loss (10 feet?!) because of the gauge and wrapping of the actual wiring.

Tru-Coat, iPhone screen covers, Monster Cables (in all their various form factors for various musical styles), the fringes of the herbal medicine markets, astrology, magnetic shoe soles (to fix your back or kidneys or whatever ails you, cigarette smokers' "T-Zone", circus sideshows…
