The Longest, Most Inconsistently-Off-Topic Thread in History

Post by monkey man »

If anyone can do it, it's we 'Cornies, mereckons.
It won't be possible without James' cooperation though, so we'll be relying on his tolerance as well as his deletion of posts/members/trolls in preference to thread annihilation.

The rules:
Site rules - civility at all times (obvious sarcasm and ribbing between friends excepted), and no poly ticks or real legions.

The aim:
The Longest, Most Inconsistently-Off-Topic Thread in History. Well, our history at least.
To be able to dive deeply enough into each topic / conversation to gain insight / learn something before being diverted OT.
To not be bogged down too long in / overwhelmed by any topic; OT diversions will prove critical here.

The challenges:
Not to panic when the thread disappears off the radar temporarily - all long journeys involve setbacks, after all.
To consistently insert timely (and hopefully amusing) OT diversions.
To never give up.

OK... 'Tis time!

Ready?... Go!
[The sound of crickets dominates the calm night air... ]

"The journey of a thousand pages begins with one post", Monkey says to himself.
"Seems like a good start..." :?

EDIT 1: OK, forget the rules. LOL

EDIT 2: Rules reinstated.

If "Unicornation" becomes "Motunation" does it mean we've all lost the Horn.

Hey Cannon, welcome to our history-making thread. :D

I know when DP6 is coming - soon!

You know, I've kinda held back in expressing my anguish with regard to DP6's release.
I was already beside myself a year ago, after all!
Since I jumped on board DP2.7, I've been hankerin' after a decent VI suite, guitar/bass amp sims, "analog" chorus and phaser, a denoiser, and so on.
Given my limited budget and history of being ripped off, I simply haven't had the guts to invest in 3rd party offerings.

So, when I chant for DP6, I chant hard.
When I cry for her, I cry a river.
When I contemplate her not delivering on said features, I feel sick in my stomach.

Will she change your life? Will it help you if she delivers high-quality plugs in spades?
Do you think MOTU's been adding unannounced features in the interim since NAMM?
Jump in quickly before we get diverted OT, mate. :D

Hey Adrian. Check our post times; dem was simultaneous, dem was. :D

LOL! It's happening already! (The OT thing, although I'll not comment on the loss of horn seeing as my 16 years of celibacy disqualifies me from that particular topic LOL).
I see so many downsides to the name change that I'm in permanent denial.
It is, and always will be, UnicorNation, AFAIC. :D

Damn that topic change - I'm curious as how rcannonp feels about DP6. :D
Hoping to stay down a little longer (holding breath)...

What were we talking about?

I fell asleep on my couch last night, and now my neck hurts. Can anyone recommend a good analgesic?

The OT section at UnicorNation works well for me.
You can find it here:

I thought that OT was the game. I figured that I would try and be funny by posting about DP6. In the OT thread in the OT forum, a question about DP would be OT, right?

Probably not too much. Outside of Photoshop, I feel that I've barely scratched the surface on most of the software that I have. Any major, current DAW does ridiculously more than I've ever made use of.

Will it help you if she delivers high-quality plugs in spades?
That new reverb will be nice. After getting burned by Waves in the OS9-OSX transition, I've tried to rely on third party plugs as little as possible. As long as they keep the MW stuff, then I'll be OK.
Do you think MOTU's been adding unannounced features in the interim since NAMM?
I would think that something else would have to have made it in by now. I hope that they will eventually include some stomp box type effects or work on improving the stuff that they already have in there like the chorus, phaser and delay plugins.

Thank you Cannon; I really appreciate your sharing your views.
Yes, the words I was looking for when I said "analog FX" were "stomp box". :D

OK, I'm ready to go wherever the wind takes us now.

I did a science project back in high school where one of the things I had to learn to do was identify the sex of fruit flies (Drosophila_melanogaster).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drosophila_melanogaster

To this day I can still tell them apart. Is that off topic enough, MM?

It'll do, Phil. :D

Did you know that although no animal has been bombarded more during the last 50 years with X-rays, gamma rays and the like, not a single beneficial mutation (gain in DNA information) has been produced in said flies?
Every mutation involved a loss of information and resulted in compromised flies.
Many had no wings. Some had curled wings, etc.
Poor blighters.

Hope you've been well, Phil. :D

I really must mow the grass today. it's not too bad, but I have 3 days of sessions coming up and it rained a lot this week. I hope my DP6 box isn't laying out in the tall grass waiting to be shredded.

The deep philosophical question that comes to mind is:

How can anything be off-topic in a thread devoted to off-topic material?

It gets worse:

If you stay "on topic" by being "off topic," aren't they essentially the same thing? Or do they cancel each other out--or even worse, explode like matter and antimatter coming into contact?

Two other questions come to mind: why aren't I working on something now, and did they forget to give me my medication today?
