Kontakt 5- "Working on sample data cache. Please wait..."

Post by buzzsmith »

Just sharing.

I've had an issue lately where I have to wait about 2-5 minutes sometimes when Kontakt 5 is a VI on a project with the message "Working on sample data cache. Please wait..."

Today is a non-music production, taking-care-of-little-studio-things-day and this was on my list.

Turns out that it appears to be related to having Sophos anti virus running which I had.

I disabled using the removal tool (only way) that came with the app and all now (so far) appears fine with Kontakt 5 loading times.

Just in case anyone else was experiencing this.

Google is our friend...most of the time.

And since the fix, all appears OK.

Googled this very problem and saw your thread, Buzz.

I was able to resolve the problem without uninstalling Sophos- just by turning off LIVE PROTECTION in the SOPHOS preferences. FYI.

It might not be necessary. I just installed it the other day as I was lured by a false Adobe installer that changed all my internet settings and added a few browser plug-ins. I think it was trying to draw revenue driving traffic to some websites (like Amazon, etc.). I ran Sophos to see if there was other Malware besides the web extensions. Took 24 hours to complete the scan, no threats found.

Yeah, I have Sophos installed, but with all background processing, updates, etc., disabled. I just (occasionally) run it manually, like any other maintenance utility.

I run Clamxav on occasion. Strictly a manual scan thing, no background processes. I do this to prevent passing on ITDs (Internet transmitted diseases) to other poor, unsuspecting Windows users.

I run the free version of iAntivirus from Norton. The free version only runs manually which is fine by me.

I find nothing my system ever but my wife's students (nearly all retired) forward every bit of crap they find on the internet - and she opens it. I find nothing that affects her Mac but who knows what that garbage is doing to the PC users? :shake:

Trying very hard not to generalize about retirees and the internet. :surrender:

Just for the record, I'm on a Mac, no anti-virus, etc, and I've seen this problem --- not for 5 minutes but I've loaded the standard Strings instrument into Kontakt and waited about 15 seconds while it was "working on sample data cache"

Same here. No Anti Virus and every time I try to load the session it takes ages to load. Any other advice?

stubbs, is it now infiltrating your messages too?
I had to get rid of some mac cleaner app or something with that false Adobe update for the wife's MBP. Now its coming up in messages for some other crap. I'll need to dump those browser plug ins-thanks for the reminder.
