15 Reasons Why You Should Never Ever Buy a Streaming Service

As cynical as this article is, I think he nails the current situation pretty well.

Well, I suppose we should add this to the conversation too.

http://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/m ... -torrents/

Music doesn’t feature in The Pirate Bay’s Top 100 most popular torrents

This is either very good news for the industry’s anti-piracy efforts, or slightly worrying news about pop music’s appeal in the big, wide world.

If you hadn’t heard, notorious file-sharing site The Pirate Bay returned to the web on Saturday (January 31). Carrying a Swedish domain, its reappearance arrived seven weeks after its servers were disabled.

MBW has analysed TPB’s Top 100 most-pirated files in the 48 hours since its re-emergence. And although you’ll find plenty of movies and a smattering of porn in there, you won’t see a single music release.
And this:

http://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/o ... s-america/
They don’t make ‘em like they used to: MBW has discovered that ‘new’ albums were outsold by ‘old’ (catalogue) albums online in the US for the first time in 2014.

The feat of catalogue albums outselling frontline releases was first achieved back in 2012, but that was a momentary blip; it’s never taken place over a whole year before.

I don't know if it is misleading or not. Nevertheless, an assertion in the article is that music piracy is down. If that is true, it's interesting.

I found this quote amusing: "People might say they care about sound quality. But the reality is that most do not, even if they own a pair of Beats headphones." Did they mean "especially if they own a pair of Beats headphones." ?

If it was true, it would be.

Maybe they want us to use Beats headphones for mixing.

"Beats sold for $3 billion, but that’s because (a) Steve Jobs wasn’t alive to veto it"
This is the first thing about Beats that's made any sense to me. I just don't get it. If I was a major shareholder, I'd be looking for an audit.

Beats is rumored to go live with iOS 8.4 this Spring.

http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/news/a62 ... 0bBYv1gB91

I can hardly wait. Hmmm... actually, I can wait forever. It can join Pandora, Spotify and iTunes Radio in the list of things that I ignore.

The real question will not be if it messes iTunes but to what degree it will totally screw things up...

iTunes works fine for me now, but I am getting really fed up with having to figure out how it works with each update. Maybe time to look for alternatives.
