64 bit MX4 request

Post by AudioSoundzz »

I hope MOTU is going to upgrade MX4 to 64 bit. I love this program and it's not usable in 32 Bit mode anymore in my studio. :(

Don't see that happening any time soon. Jbridge or 32 Lives might be the only way.

The AU version of MX4 will work in DP8 in 64-bit mode using 32 Lives. See this thread:

It's coming this spring, 64-bit mode, as part of DP9.

Presumably Win and Mac both. Not sure about MAS, AU, VST.

Likely more details will emerge as NAMM progresses. This info so far is from the main forum, what people saw at demos, and other MOTU public channels.

You mean it's included in DP 9? That kind of sucks for owners of MX-4. We should get an upgrade discount. Yeah, right!

Well, if you own MX4 and not DP, I think that they should offer an upgrade. If you own both products being combined... well, it would be nice.

Some of the plugin companies offer discounts if you own multiple products... Perhaps MOTU could follow their example.

I agree. Yea, right.

I hadn't thought about that. Good point, but it's premature as we don't yet have an official publicly published announcement from MOTU themselves about the DP9/MX4 combo.

I am so pleased with this news! Since MX4 became untenable after I switched to 64-bit DP, I've been using Alchemy and Synthmaster, and I'm glad I had a chance to explore them. But I've missed MX4 and can't wait to get back to it.

They are including it in the NAMM demo. I 'spect that means it's working well enough for MOTU to be confident it will happen.

Sounds good. Yeah, I wasn't sure if MOTU only shows stuff in demos when they know for sure; not all manufacturers take that approach to their demos.

I sold my copy years ago, when I still had a hopeless G4 iMac, figuring that by the time I upgraded to a real computer, the world would have changed. But I have some nostalgia for MX4 because I still think it has one of the most intuitive workflows of any soft synth, and some of the most powerful features, and it WAS my very first Virtual Instrument ever!

Its Pattern Gate is killer, but may also have been the basis for the excellent MAS plug-in for DP.

Anyone know if they are updating MX4 to 64bit for those of us that bought MX4 a long time ago. Its packaged with DP9 as 64bit now. Presumably that is the MAS version and no need for dongle. i would love to be able to use it with Mainstage as 64bit AU no dongle...is that a pipe dream?

You may have t be the person who calls MOTU to find out. It appears that you best know the questions to ask.

I finally got through to motu download page, nothing new there. i will send them a request for it. I am actually going to skip DP9, its too pricey for what it delivers, I'll wait for DP10. But really its kind of lame if they dont update MX4 for those of us that actually paid for it, to 64bit or try to force us to upgrade DP in order to get it. Not to mention that I'd like to use MX4 with other hosts like Mainstage.

I wouldn't assign malicious intent to the inclusion of MX4 in DP9; that is a competitive move to address how many DAW's include top-tier soft synths now. It's not a ploy to get MX4 owners to "have" to buy DP9.

Good luck with your other questions. I'm not sure MOTU will have any reason to have expertise in Mainstage, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
